What we expect from students
Behavior and safety
As stated in the Student Code of Conduct, all students must observe occupational health and safety laws, rules and standards. This includes wearing correct safety clothes and equipment, correct use of all tools and equipment and behaving in a safe manner at all times.
Students who do not wear safety equipment will be immediately removed from class and told to leave. Students who disregard occupational health and safety rules and the student code of conduct will also be subject to discipline procedures.
Changes in enrolment status
It is quite possible that students make enrolment decisions that may not suit them. If your son or daughter withdraws from their course or changes their enrolment status, we encourage them to involve you in the decision. Under these circumstances we also encourage younger learners to talk to a staff member about other options and we will do our best to ensure that they have alternative pathways available to them. Refunds of fees are not available after the first four weeks of the course.
Supervision of 15 to 18 year olds
Learners are supervised when they are in class and certainly will be closely supervised if they are performing potentially dangerous course related activities. All students must complete a unit in Occupational Health and Safety before they undertake laboratory or practical classes.
There is no out-of-class supervision. If students need to walk from one campus to another they will not usually be accompanied. If you do not want your son or daughter to leave the campus, you may wish to discuss with them the difference between a tertiary learning environment and a secondary school environment.
Security after dark
Some TAFE classes are conducted at night, even for 15 to 18 year olds. Teachers advise students on safe practices such as walking to the car park or train station in groups. As parents, we ask that you be aware of your child's timetable and make any necessary arrangements to ensure their safety after dark.
