Youth Unit
The Box Hill Institute Youth Unit coordinates and supports young learners and assists teachers in the planning and delivery of courses. Youth Unit staff look after the VCAL program and run the Youth Pathways Program.
Youth Pathways Program
Some full time students between the ages of 15 and 19 are under the Youth Pathways Program. This program supports students in completing their course. It assists students develop education, training, employment and other goals and links them to any extra support. The Youth Pathways Coordinator develops an education and training plan as well as assists students in developing a folio that may include their training plan, a resume, certificates, references, samples of work and work experience reports.
Student Activities and Representative Committees (SARC)
SARC runs events including breakfasts, BBQs, sports days, trivia nights, promotions and surf camps. They produce the student newspaper, The Box, as well as a student diary and coordinate a media committee. They represent students on various Institute committees and support students who have a grievance or are subject to disciplinary procedures. They run student lounges at Elgar, Nelson and Whitehorse campuses that have kitchen facilities, TV, pool tables and game machines.
Student Support
Our Student Support unit offers a range of learning and personal support.
These include:
- Disability Liaison Unit – offers academic and physical support to students with a disability.
- Learning Support Unit – a learning support teacher to help students having difficulties with maths and English
- Careers Counselling – helps students choose a career or decide on a suitable pathway
- Personal Counselling –psychologists to assist students with personal or study-related difficulties
- Welfare – a welfare officer to discuss issues such as accommodation and financial concerns.
