Following on from 'Auslan Level 1', each week learn new signs and mix with previous signs to expand your skills and knowledge. Learn practical skill development of finger-spelling, read-back spelt words to improve communication.

Target Audience

This course focuses on improving the beginners style on Auslan by verifying the language detailed.

Course Content

This course covers:

Session 1

  • Verifying Auslan, the grammar/context.
  • Fingerspelling and signing, receiving (reading-back signs), the patterns and shapes.

Session 2

  • Small fingerspelling and number revision.
  • English and Auslan conversions - how, why etc.

Session 3

  • Class presentations.
  • Signs and examples.

Session Four

  • Pairs work to converse in Auslan for understanding other’s styles.
  • Revising learnt signs.
  • Each student to give presentation to class from recent session.
  • New signs and examples.
  • Game on converting Auslan into English.

Session Five

  • Revising new signs learnt from recent session.
  • Each student to give presentation to class from recent session.
  • New signs and examples.

Session Six

  • Revising new signs from recent session.
  • Each student to give presentation to class from recent session.
  • New signs and examples.
  • Verifying overall sessions.

Session Seven

  • Each student to give presentation to class from recent session.
  • New signs and examples.
  • List of reminders for partners to work with - words selected from previous lessons for double-checking.
  • Students to work together on stories and conversations.

Session Eight

  • Test assess student’s knowledge on Auslan 2.
  • Complete work on stories.
  • View video “Signs of the Language” by Sydney Theatre of the Deaf.
  • Discussion on the video.
  • Funny stories to be presented for assessment.

Refund Policy (short courses)

Course Withdrawal & Refunds: Fee refunds will only be issued if a course withdrawal request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement. A 25% administration fee will be charged. No refunds will be issued for withdrawal requests received after this time.

Course Transfers: Students wishing to transfer to a future start date of the same course will be accepted if a request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement, and providing a suitable future course offering is available. For all transfer requests, a $35 transfer fee will apply.

Course Cancellation by the Institute: Where a course is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be issued.

Processing of refunds takes a minimum of twelve (12) working days. All refunds will be made directly to the payee, and will be mailed to the payee’s address as shown on the application form. For online/web-based fee payments made via credit card, refunds will only be made to the payee’s credit card as was used for the original fee payment.
