Target Audience

Holiday makers, business people or those interested in learning a language for other purposes and acquiring some skills in basic grammer, vocabulary and conversation. It also provides an understanding of the Arabic speaking countries culture and history.

Course Content

An introduction to the standard Arabic language, spoken and understood in all Arab countries. Emphasising conversation, everyday usage and general communication, it is particularly suitable for people intending to travel to Arabic speaking countries and includes aspects of Arabic culture.

Session 1 -

  • Introduction to standard Arabic and dialects. 
  • Arabic alphabet, fasic pronunciation and writing
  • Introduction to various calligraphies

Session 2 -

  • Long and short vowels
  • Greetings
  • Masculine and feminine nouns

Session 3 –

  • Personal pronouns (subject)
  • Introducing yourself
  • Basic sentence structure

Session 4 –

  • Possessive pronouns
  • Introducing yourself with your name and country
  • Prepositions

Session 5 –

  • Definite and indefinite nouns
  • Types of the definite articles
  • Numbers from 1 to 10

Session 6 - 8

  • More reading/writing practice with pronunciation improvement
  • New vocabulary and day to day language skills
  • Arabic culture

Modern Standard Arabic - Intro and Workbook, Modern Standard Arabic - Beginners, which can be purchased from the Elgar Campus Bookshop. Please contact the bookshop on (03) 9286 9379 for availability and opening hours.

Refund Policy (short courses)

Course Withdrawal & Refunds: Fee refunds will only be issued if a course withdrawal request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement. A 25% administration fee will be charged. No refunds will be issued for withdrawal requests received after this time.

Course Transfers: Students wishing to transfer to a future start date of the same course will be accepted if a request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement, and providing a suitable future course offering is available. For all transfer requests, a $35 transfer fee will apply.

Course Cancellation by the Institute: Where a course is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be issued.

Processing of refunds takes a minimum of twelve (12) working days. All refunds will be made directly to the payee, and will be mailed to the payee’s address as shown on the application form. For online/web-based fee payments made via credit card, refunds will only be made to the payee’s credit card as was used for the original fee payment.
