Target Audience

People who wish to secure employment in a cafe, or those who may be currently working in a cafe and want to learn the "right way" to make the perfect espresso. A passion for good customer service and great coffee is essential!

Course Content

This course will be delivered by some of the most experienced coffee makers in Melbourne. Co-ordinated by Justin Metcalf - World Barista Judge, you will be instructed on how to prepare and serve an espresso coffee to a standard that will help you secure employment in one of Melbourne's better cafes.

The course will include a visit to a roasting house and a visit to a cafe to introduce you to the finer points of coffee - a more wholistic approach to being a Barista. A small group of 12 students will get very personalised training and our coffee training room will be made available for you to practice between classes.

After the first five weeks there will be a two week break to enable you to access some job experience in a cafe.

  • How to organise and prepare work areas
  • Provide customer service and advise customers on espresso coffee
  • Select and grind coffee
  • Texture milk
  • Serve and present espresso coffee
  • Clean and maintain espresso machine

Refund Policy (short courses)

Course Withdrawal & Refunds: Fee refunds will only be issued if a course withdrawal request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement. A 25% administration fee will be charged. No refunds will be issued for withdrawal requests received after this time.

Course Transfers: Students wishing to transfer to a future start date of the same course will be accepted if a request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement, and providing a suitable future course offering is available. For all transfer requests, a $35 transfer fee will apply.

Course Cancellation by the Institute: Where a course is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be issued.

Processing of refunds takes a minimum of twelve (12) working days. All refunds will be made directly to the payee, and will be mailed to the payee’s address as shown on the application form. For online/web-based fee payments made via credit card, refunds will only be made to the payee’s credit card as was used for the original fee payment.
