In this structured course study all aspects of portraiture including proportion, artistic anatomy, light and shade, use of perspective, with special attention to facial details, to obtain likeness, facial expression and a 3D affect. You will produce a series of head studies for building a folio or for framing. A model will be available for most sessions.

Target Audience

General public and anyone who wishes to use this course to build a drawing folio.

Course Content

Studio based tutor demonstration and individual assistance. Model available for most sessions.

  • Basic proportion of the head/face 
  • How to apply them on an individual basis. 
  • Aware of optical illusions and how to interpret these in drawing. 
  • Experiement with a range of soft drawing medias.
  • Extend drawing knowledge and develop skills and confidence in techniques suitable for portrait drawing.

On completion of this program you will have completed a folio of head studies demonstrating a range of media and techniques. You will have the ability to be able to relax your subject to enable the portrait drawing sitting to be enjoyable experience for both.

Materials

Some paper is provided but you will need to bring quality drawing paper, pencils, charcoal or pastels. All materials can be purchased from the bookshop at Whitehorse Campus.

Refund Policy (short courses)

Course Withdrawal & Refunds: Fee refunds will only be issued if a course withdrawal request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement. A 25% administration fee will be charged. No refunds will be issued for withdrawal requests received after this time.

Course Transfers: Students wishing to transfer to a future start date of the same course will be accepted if a request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement, and providing a suitable future course offering is available. For all transfer requests, a $35 transfer fee will apply.

Course Cancellation by the Institute: Where a course is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be issued.

Processing of refunds takes a minimum of twelve (12) working days. All refunds will be made directly to the payee, and will be mailed to the payee’s address as shown on the application form. For online/web-based fee payments made via credit card, refunds will only be made to the payee’s credit card as was used for the original fee payment.
