Prerequisites:

Basic jewellery making skills, so some understanding of basic jewellery techniques, such as soldering, sawing and working in metals, would be beneficial.

Target Audience

General public and senior school students wishing to further develop their jewellery making skills.

Course Content

Instruction will be step-by-step demonstration and you will be given individual instruction and assistance in design and construction of your project. You will devote time to discuss design factors and projects followed by hands-on practice.

Techniques covered include:
• Sawing, drilling, filing
• Soldering and riveting.
• Making a piece suitable for lost wax casting. i.e. a ring (these are
sent for professional casting in silver at a small extra charge.)

Final classes are in finishing projects and the polishing and finishing techniques.

On completion of this course you will have gained some basic skills in jewellery, plus some finished pieces individually designed. May also be a suitable pre-requisite for entry to a mainstream jewellery course.

Materials

Some tools, equipment and metals are provided but you will need to supply your own basic tool kit, some silver and stones.

• 1 adjustable jewellers fret saw frame
• 2 packets of 12 saw blades size 4/0
• Emery paper: 2 sheets of ‘O’ emery
• 2 sheets of ‘G’ emery
• 3 drill bits size 1mm
• Ruler
• 1 pair of stainless steel pointy nose tweezers
• 2 boxes of matches
• Note pad and pen
• Hand towel
• Apron
• Half round files; 1x 2nd cut
• 1x 3rd cut

Metal to work with eg. sterling silver (copper provided free)

• 1 x 3mm conical burr
• 1 x 3mm – 45degree setting burr
• 1mm wax saw blades

Refund Policy (short courses)

Course Withdrawal & Refunds: Fee refunds will only be issued if a course withdrawal request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement. A 25% administration fee will be charged. No refunds will be issued for withdrawal requests received after this time.

Course Transfers: Students wishing to transfer to a future start date of the same course will be accepted if a request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement, and providing a suitable future course offering is available. For all transfer requests, a $30 transfer fee will apply.

Course Cancellation by the Institute: Where a course is cancelled due to unforseen circumstances, a full refund will be issued.

Processing of refunds takes a minimum of twelve (12) working days. All refunds will be made directly to the payee, and will be mailed to the payee’s address as shown on the application form.
