This is an intensive figure drawing course with a live model. The course covers the basic elements of drawing a human figure including artistic anatomy, structure and proportion, balance and dynamics. You will be assisted and encouraged to explore various techniques and media, such as pencil, charcoal, ink, pastels and more. Ideal for beginners or those with some experience wanting to refresh their techniques.

Target Audience

Ideal for beginners or those with some experience wanting to refresh their techniques, or anyone wishing to build a folio for an art course selection.

Course Content

Studio based, with a model at each session. Drawing sessions, demonstration and structure in classes.

  • Introduction of drawing at an easel, drawing stance and positioning to view the posing model.
  • Demonstration on using soft drawing medias and getting started
  • Positioning the sketch on the page, proportion and measuring angles, structure and form
  • How to pace your drawing whether it be a 5 minute pose or a 20 minute pose
  • Drawing techniques cover continuous line drawing, tonal mark making, tonal blackout or negative working
  • Self analysis and assessment of own work is emphasised

By the end of this course you will have enhanced your drawing skills, with accurate observation drawing of the figure. All aspects of building and presenting a life drawing folio are covered including assistance with selection of works.

Materials

Supplied for the first session only. Additional material requirements will be covered during the first session - paper, pencil and charcoal, plus large sheets of drawing paper.

Refund Policy (short courses)

Course Withdrawal & Refunds: Fee refunds will only be issued if a course withdrawal request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement. A 25% administration fee will be charged. No refunds will be issued for withdrawal requests received after this time.

Course Transfers: Students wishing to transfer to a future start date of the same course will be accepted if a request is received at least five (5) working days prior to the date of course commencement, and providing a suitable future course offering is available. For all transfer requests, a $35 transfer fee will apply.

Course Cancellation by the Institute: Where a course is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be issued.

Processing of refunds takes a minimum of twelve (12) working days. All refunds will be made directly to the payee, and will be mailed to the payee’s address as shown on the application form. For online/web-based fee payments made via credit card, refunds will only be made to the payee’s credit card as was used for the original fee payment.
