What does this course involve?

This course will equip you with the skills to understand the best methods of designing, constructing and delivering lesson plans in order to train others to drive a motor vehicle.  You will learn in a very positive learning environment which includes a variety of class time, online learning and extensive on road training. 

With the guidance of highly skilled and respected instructors, you will learn the art of car control through verbal instruction, how to safely use the duel control systems in driving school vehicles and how to physically take control of the situation during an emergency.  Vehicles you will use are modern and equipped with a full set of duel controls. 

Both Road Rules Victoria and The Road Safety Act Laws relating to car driving instruction are comprehensively covered.

You will also be well equipped with the skills to operate an independent business.  You will learn about customer service, basic bookkeeping skills, working in a socially diverse environment and about Occupational Health and Safety in relation to driver training.

This course is run from our Ceylon Campus, 30-32 Ceylon Street Nunawading (Mel ref: 48 C10).

What employment opportunities will I have?

You will be qualified to teach and prepare clients in obtaintaing a Victorian drivers licence (in vehicles under 4.5 tonne) for your own business or registered driving schools.  Work in this field can be challenging as well as flexible enabling you to decide on your own working hours.

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to study further modules and gain your Certificate IV in Training and Assessment  which will enable you to train others. Taking extra modules in other courses will allow you to teach truck drivers.

Can I apply?

You must:

  • have a current full Victorian or Australian driver's licence
  • have basic computer skills
  • have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills.

On completion of this course you must:

  • have a current Working with Children Check
  • have a National Police Record Check
  • have a medical check
  • provide all of the above, including certification of completing this accredited course when you apply for your Driver's Instructor Authority (DIA).

How will I be selected for this course?

You will need to sit a literacy and numeracy test to ensure you have the skills necessary to become a driving instructor.  You will need to make an appointment for this assessment.

Will my previous experience or study count?

Advanced Standing is approved recognition of prior learning that is displayed as an Exemption (EX) on the student’s academic record. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) takes into account the knowledge and skills you’ve already gained through your previous education and work. This unit addresses the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to maintain the records of a business or records system in good order on a day to day basis.

All fees quoted are annual indicative fees and are correct at the time of publishing.
