What does this course involve?

This qualification will allow you to implant identification permanent unique devices (microchip) in animals for registration purposes.

You will learn how to physically implant microchips in cats and dogs without sedation or anaesthesia. You will gain an understanding of microchipping procedures and the legal responsibilities of authorised implanters.

Completion of this course will qualify graduates as approved Microchip Implanters with enhanced employment opportunities in veterinary practice and animal control and management.

In order to apply students must have one of the following qualifications and must be currently working for or under the supervision of a Veterinarian:

  • Advanced Certificate in Veterinary Nursing or an equivalent or advanced course in veterinary nursing
  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or an equivalent or advanced course in veterinary nursing
  • Certificate IV in Animal Control and Regulation or an equivalent or advanced course in animal control
  • Certificate III in Local Government (Animal Management)
  • Certificate IV in Animal Welfare (Regulation)
  • Certificate III in Animal Technology or an equivalent or advanced course in animal technology
  • National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing (Level 5) – New Zealand
  • Veterinary Nurse (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) United Kingdom
  • Level 3: Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons; National Vocational Qualification in Veterinary Nursing

  1. Tuition Fee - $2.17 per hour (max $1,250.00)
  2. Concession Tuition Fee - $187.50
  3. Service and Amenities Fee - $65.00 or 90.00

Fee for Service - this course will cost $200.00 if you aren't eligible for government subsidised training.
