What does this course involve?

Build on your Diploma of Graphic Design  with a third year and gain advanced skills in artistic and design practice for the graphic design industry.

You will extend your understanding of the print and design industry and gain advanced skills in managing major projects and implementing design solutions when dealing with complex design briefs. You major studies with include 2D and 3D design theory, advanced digital production, copyright, project management, multimedia, web design and interactive interface design.

What employment opportunities will I have?

At the end of the course students will leave with a strong portfolio of work that will allow them to gain employment as a designer in the graphic design and related fields such as advertising, publishing and digital media

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to articulate into the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Contemporary Arts at Deakin University and receive credits for studies already undertaken.

  • You must have successfully completed Year 12 of education, or be mature age
  • Relevant work experience may mean you are suitable for this course
  • You must have successfully completed required units from the Diploma of Graphic Design

How do I apply?

VTAC and direct entry.

VTAC - to apply for a full time position in this course you must use the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process. Details of the VTAC application process are at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide, which is available from leading newsagents and libraries from August. If the Institute still has vacancies after the VTAC places have been offered, you will be able to apply directly to the Institute.
You will also need to submit a completed Box Hill Institute Application for Interview Form by:

  • posting to Creative Industries, Box Hill Institute, Private Bag 2014, Box Hill 3128
  • or in person at Creative Industries, Building W1, Room 124, 1000 Whitehorse Rd, Box Hill

Folio Interviews will be held in late November and early December where you will be required to present a folio containing work demonstrating concept development.

Government Subsidised Fees

  1. Tuition Fee - $4.33 per hour (max $2,500.00)
  2. Service and Amenities Fee - $65.00 or 90.00

Fee for Service - this course will cost $12,000.00 if you aren't eligible for government subsidised training.

Advanced Standing is approved recognition of prior learning that is displayed as an Exemption (EX) on the student’s academic record. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) takes into account the knowledge and skills you’ve already gained through your previous education and work. This may be through formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work experience, and can earn you credit if relevant to your chosen course.
