What does this course involve?

Please note: this course will change to the ICA11 training package diploma course.

This course provides you with realistic practical training in software development and computer applications programming.

You will program Oracle databases, Microsoft Visual Studio and Sun Java, and you will use technology such as VB.NET and Java GUI applications. You will learn how to gather information to identify business requirements, translate business needs into technical requirements and build software using rapid application development.

If you successfully complete the Diploma of Information Technology (Software Development) you will have the opportunity to go on and complete the Diploma of Information Technology (Website Development) in the same time frame. Industry standard vendor qualification in Oracle is also available.

This course is also available to international students.

What further study options will I have?

Students who successfully complete a Diploma of Information Technology (Software Development) who wish to progress into an Associate Degree in Computer Systems (Networking) or Bachelor of Computer Systems (Networking) will receive credit for six subjects or the equivalent of 1.5 semesters in duration.

Can I apply?

You must have successfully completed Year 12 (VCE) of education, or equivalent or be a mature age with appropriate experience.

How do I apply?

VTAC - to apply for a full time position in this course you must use the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process. Details of the VTAC application process are at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide, which is available from leading newsagents and libraries from August. If the Institute still has vacancies after the VTAC places have been offered, you will be able to apply directly to the Institute. January intake only.

Length of course

Full time - 2 years Part time - selected units are available for evening study, other units may be studied during the day. Duration of the course for a part time enrolment will depend on the number of units a student enrols in simultaneously each semester.
