What does this course involve?

If you want a career in hairdressing, this introductory course will give you the skills to begin work in the industry.

You will learn how to maintain a clean and efficient work environment and how to communicate effectively with those around you. You will also learn how to deal with clients, preparing clients for salon services, shampooing and removing chemicals from their hair, performing head, neck and shoulder massage, and applying single, double and triple strand braiding.

Basic business skills are also covered in this certificate along with how to sell products and services.

On completion of this course you will be eligible for employment at an entry level in the field of hairdressing.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) takes into account the knowledge and skills you’ve already gained through your previous education and work. This may be through formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work experience, and can earn you credit if relevant to your chosen course.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a retail environment. It involves acting responsibly and in a nondiscriminatory manner, developing retail industry knowledge, including industrial award or agreement relevant to the job role, maintaining personal hygiene and presentation, and prioritising tasks.
