What does this course involve?

This course provides you with the ability to work as a Level III childcare worker in a variety of early childhood settings and out-of-school hour's programs. Learn how to care and interact effectively with children, provide food and respond to illnesses and accidents. You will learn how to foster and support the emotional wellbeing of infants and oversee their physical, social and psychological development. You will also learn how to provide administration support in a child care facility, and provide a safe and healthy working environment.

This course is also available to international students.

This course may provide you with employment opportunities in; long day care, occasional care, out of school hour's care, family day care and sessional services, leisure centres, pre-school or kindergartens, neighbourhood houses, Australian migrant education program services and mobile services and other specialised services.

You may be eligible to progress into the Diploma of Children’s Services (Early childhood education and care).

Can I apply?

You may have prior experience or be currently working in the industry and need to upgrade your skills to obtain a qualification. If you are interested in working in this industry and have no previous experience then you are also eligible to apply. You must have:

  • a current National Police Record check
  • a current Working with Children check.

How do I apply?

Direct entry – beginning and mid-year entry.
You must download and complete a Box Hill Institute Application Form and attend one of the following information sessions in Building 3 Level 3, 465 Elgar Road Box Hill:

  • Tuesday 24th January from 5pm - 7pm.

Length of course

For those not working within the Children's Services industry 4 days a week or part time 2 days a week.
If you are working within the Children's Services industry approximately 4-6 months part time one night per week.

Government Subsidised Fees

  1. Tuition Fee - $2.17 per hour (max $1,250.00)
  2. Concession Tuition Fee - $187.50
  3. Service and Amenities Fee - $65.00 or 90.00

Fee for Service - this course will cost $5,000.00 if you aren't eligible for government subsidised training.
