What does this course involve?

This course will equip you with practical skills and knowledge for a career in floristry - an industry where you can be creative and business-minded.

You will learn essential skills in communication, housekeeping and workplace safety. You will learn how to prepare and display floristry stock and arrange foliage and flowers in boxes, posies, baskets or bowls.

You will also study retail topics such as how to provide service to customers, operate retail equipment and perform stock control.

You will complete work experience to gain industry experience and will have the opportunity to prepare arrangements for various functions hosted by Box Hill Institute and compete for various awards, such as the Apprentice of the Year.

This course will provide you with the skills to apply for an apprenticeship within the floristry industry.

What further study options will I have?

Successfully complete this course and you will be able to further develop your skills by progressing to the Certificate III in Floristry or Certificate IV in Floristry that specialise in Small Business.

Can I apply?

You must be 16 years or over and possess an aptitude for floristry, or have arranged to undertake a traineeship in floristry.

  1. Tuition Fee - $1.62 per hour (max $875.00)
  2. Concession Tuition Fee - $105.00
  3. Service and Amenities Fee - $65.00 or 90.00

Fee for Service - this course will cost $10,000.00 if you aren't eligible for government subsidised training.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) takes into account the knowledge and skills you’ve already gained through your previous education and work. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare and present floristry stock and merchandise within the shop/studio, including the preparation and maintenance of displays.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge to prepare, construct and present floral arrangements produced to pre-determined design specifications. This competency may apply to a range of roles in the workplace where the florist is under the supervision of an experienced florist. It does not require the development of the design specifications.
