If you’re looking to start your career as a library technician, working as part of a library or information services team, the Certificate IV in Library/Information Services course will give you the essential training.

You will develop an understanding of the library information services industry, learn how to search databases and use cataloguing tools.
You will help customers access information, operate computing packages and lead work teams.

This course will also teach you how to provide quality customer service, manage effective working relationships and manage your own work priorities and professional development.

This course is also available to international students.

You will progress into the second year of the Diploma of Library/Information Services. You may then wish to further your studies with the Advanced Diploma of Library/Information Services.

  • You need good computer skills.

How do I apply?

VTAC - to apply for a full time position in this course you must use the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process. Details of the VTAC application process are at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide, which is available from leading newsagents and libraries from August. If the Institute still has vacancies after the VTAC places have been offered, you will be able to apply directly to the Institute.

Length of course

  • Full time - 1 year (to complete the Diploma you will only need to complete a further year).
  • Part time - 2 to 3 years (to complete the Diploma you will only need to complete a further 2 to 3 years).
  • Single units may also be taken in a variety of modes such as weekly classes, day blocks, distance learning and off-site (on-the-job).

  1. Tuition Fee - $2.17 per hour (max $1,250.00)
  2. Concession Tuition Fee - $187.50
  3. Service and Amenities Fee - $65.00 or 90.00

Fee for Service - this course will cost $10,560.00 if you aren't eligible for government subsidised training.
