What does this course involve?

This course is designed for those working in the furniture manufacturing, or cabinet-marking sector in kitchen, bathroom, office and commercial furniture or fitments.
You will gain skills in all types of cabinet construction, the assembly and advanced methods of curved and angular construction and reading and interpreting work documents.

Learn to make furniture using the leg and rail method, select and apply hardware and construct custom furniture.
You will also learn how to produce manual and computer aided production drawings.

This course may provide you with employment opportunities in the furnishing industry as a cabinet maker.

You may wish to continue onto the Certificate IV in Design or Production at other institutes or the Diploma of Arts (Furniture Design) at Box Hill Institute.

You must have:

  • successfully completed Year 10 of education, including reading comprehension skills and mathematics (estimating and costing skills)
  • previously registered with an Australian Apprenticeship Centre
  • a training contract with an employer.
