What does this course involve?

This course is designed for light vehicle mechanics in the automotive industry who want to develop their skills and improve their employment prospects.
You will learn how to apply safe work practices, test and service batteries and carry out repairs to single electrical circuits. This course will help you develop your skills in servicing and repairing engine management systems, and teach you about inspecting and servicing engine cooling systems.
This course also covers inspecting and servicing of manual and automatic transmissions; how to repair steering and suspension systems and the detailed servicing of hydraulic brake system, engines and fuel systems.

Entrance requirements

  • Australian Year 10 or equivalent with a pass. Relevant senior employment experience in industry will also be considered.
  • There is a practical workplace component to this course and you will be required to demonstrate that you are able to perform practical tasks competently in a workplace environment.
  • A list of prospective employers will be provided to assist you in finding work placement. However, it is your responsibility to contact these employers to secure the practical workplace component of this course.

English language proficiency

  • A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

Special admission requirements

It is expected that participants will:

  • have the necessary literacy and numeracy skills to undertake the program
  • provide and wear steel-capped safety boots or shoes
  • provide and wear combination type overalls.
