What does this course involve?

Develop the skills and knowledge to become an interior decorator, colour consultant or interior stylist with this course. Create interior spaces to design industry standards, and learn about the issues of style and how to apply finishes, furnishings and decorative treatments for domestic and commercial interiors.

Your major studies will include colour studies, computer-aided design (CAD), construction, design, drawing and furnishings, as well as lighting, materials, planning and drafting.

Entrance requirements

Australian Year 12 or equivalent with a pass, however relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.

English language proficiency

A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

Special admission requirements

Applicants will be required to submit a folio of artwork that contains personal examples of artistic and/or creative pieces in any form (photography, art, drawing, etc.).

Past applications and/or interest in this area will also be taken into consideration (sewing of curtains, soft furnishing, decorating, etc.).

Must be able to show a relationship between artistic and/or creative pieces and interior design and decoration.

Cost

$AUD12,700 per year, plus amenities and materials fees.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course will prepare you to be self-employed as an interior decorator, colour consultant or interior stylist. You may also gain employment as an in-house interior designer or decorator for design and decoration consultancies, furniture, furnishing and fabric suppliers or furnishing departments of retail stores.

What further study options will I have?

On successful completion of the Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration, you can seek pathways to the Advanced Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration.
