What does this course involve?

Looking for employment as a product developer, patternmaker, grader or CAD operator? Then this course is for you.

This course covers:
  • practical skills such as drawing and interpreting basic sketches, identifying fibres and fabrics, developing patterns and using a sewing machine
  • how to prepare and produce garments, calculate cists for fashion products and conduct quality assurance for patterns and garments
  • the design and production of customised, tailored and draped fashion garments
  • how to design garment ranges and develop a professional design folio
  • and the opportunity to put your practical skills to use by competing for prestigious industry awards and competitions.

Entrance requirements

Australian Year 12 or equivalent with a pass, however relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.

English language proficiency

A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

Special admission requirements

Applicants will be required to submit a folio of drawings and designs. Folio should include evidence of two garments showing basic garment construct on skills. For further information about folio or audition preparation refer to the Guide to folio presentation.

Cost

$AUD12,700 per year, plus amenities and materials fees.

This course may provide you with employment opportunities such as; product developers, patternmakers, graders, CAD operators or small business operators.

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to progress into the Bachelor of Fashion Technology. You will receive credit for eight subjects or the equivalent of 1 year’s duration.

Inbound International students may also apply for direct entry to both Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology and Bachelor of Fashion as a pathway package.
