What does this course involve?

This course will give you the essential practical training for a career in information technology.
You will develop advanced programming skills, learn to install and optimise computer operating systems, and perform basic networking tasks.

You will also learn how to maintain computer hardware, design web pages to meet technical requirements and design a server.

This course will also teach you how to communicate with business clients, manage simple projects and create technical documents.

Industry standard vendor qualifications in Microsoft (MCP) and Cisco (CCNA) are also available as part of this course.

Entrance requirements

Australian Year 12 or equivalent with a pass.
Relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.

English Language Proficiency

A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

What employment opportunities will I have?

Depending on your choice of electives, this course may provide you with junior ICT support roles in PC and server installation and support, programming, web page design and games development.

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to progress into the Diploma of Information Technology with a choice of up to five of the following streams. Networking, systems administration, database design, web development and software development. You may wish to continue your studies in networking by completing the Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security) and following this the Bachelor of Computer Systems (Networking). Other streams can lead to study in a related bachelor degree at Deakin University.
