Duration

18 months for students who have successfully completed Certificate III in Children's Services.
2 years which includes the study of Certificate III in Children's Services.

What does this course involve?

Enjoy being around children? Then this course will give you the ability to design and implement engaging programs for infants, pre-schoolers and school-age children.

Learn all about children’s social, emotional and psychological development, planning care routines and handle all aspects of administration in a child care environment.

You will also learn how to provide children with a safe and healthy environment and work with children who have additional needs.

Entrance requirements

Australian Year 12 or equivalent with a pass, however relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.

English language proficiency

A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic). A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

Special admission requirements

You must have a current Working with Children check and a current National Police Record check (both in Australian and your home country).

Applicants are required to complete a questionnaire/interview – contact International Student Services for details. Applicants should be physically fit, enjoy being children,have patience, understanding, energy adaptability, and willingness to take responsibility. Students who accept an offer of a place must provide evidence of having commenced an immunisation course against Hepatitis B and fully immunised against Rubella and Tetanus. An immunisation course against Hepatitis A is also advisable.

Cost

$AUD11,300 per year, plus amenities and materials fees.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course may provide you with 'skills shortage' employment opportunities as a Level 3 or 4 Child Care Worker in long day care, occasional care, family day care, sessional services, adjunct care, pre-schools and kindergartens, early intervention services, neighbourhood houses, Australian migrant education program services, mobile services and other specialised services.

What further study options will I have?

This course leads into early childhood studies at a degree level. Credits and articulation pathways may apply.
