What does this course involve?

This course will prepare you for work as an engineering associate in research and development, production engineering, installation and equipment maintenance and design drafting. There is also some overlap between mechanical engineering associates, draftspersons and manufacturing technologists.

You can specialise in a number of different areas:

  • Mechanical Engineering - prepares you for work as a mechanical engineering technician. You may specialise in fluid power, machine design, CAD/CAM.
  • Manufacturing - prepares you for work as a manufacturing technologist. You may specialise in production, computer numerical control (CNC), CAM or fluid power.
  • Civil Engineering - prepares you for work in basic design in structures, road geometry, drainage, surveying, geology, material behaviour and testing or in design drafting.
  • Civil/structural - prepares you for work as a draftsperson in a civil engineering drawing office.

You may select units of competency from a range of design areas, which includes; Civil Drafting, Civil Design, Mechanical-CNC and Mechanical-Design.

During enrolment, you will be advised to choose modules according to your area of choice.

Entrance requirements

Successfully completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent with a pass.

English Language Proficiency

A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.
