What does this course involve?

This course will give you the necessary skills and knowledge to work children and youth involved in child protection, youth justice and supported accommodation systems.

You will learn to provide care, protection and support services to young people.

You will develop case-planning and communication skills, and learn to facilitate cooperative behaviour.

You will also receive an introduction to mental health work and the alcohol and drugs sector, and gain advanced first aid skills.

Entrance requirements

Australian Year 12 or equivalent with a pass, however relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.

English language proficiency

A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

Special admission requirements

You must have a current Working with Children check and a current National Police Record check (both in Australian and your home country).

Cost

$AUD11,300 per year, plus amenities and materials fees.

This course may provide you with employment opportunities in; residential services, supported housing services, youth justice facilities and educational facilities.

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to progress into advanced level studies in areas such as social work, welfare work or youth studies eg Diploma in Community Services Work.
