Growth and Pathways (GAP)

Are you more of a ‘hands-on’ learner and prefer to actually ‘do’ what you are learning? Are you interested in trying out TAFE to see if you like it?

If so, and you are aged at least 15 and in either Year 9 or 10, then the GAP program could be for you.

The GAP program is a TAFE ‘taster’ in which you attend TAFE one day a week - and school for the other four days - for one semester.

You will have the chance to learn some basic skills in a trade that you select.

Box Hill Institute offers GAP programs in:

  • automotive
  • building
  • electrical
  • engineering
  • fashion design
  • hairdressing
  • cookery
  • restaurant (waiting)
  • welding

The GAP program runs twice a year so you can even complete one program in Semester 1 and something different in Semester 2!

If you complete the GAP program you may decide to undertake a VET in Schools (VETiS) program the following year, which builds on the experience. And by successfully completing a VETiS program you will have credit towards, or be eligible to apply for, a TAFE qualification.

Talk to your school careers teacher or fill in the Application Form if you are interested in doing a GAP program.

Please note that the GAP program cannot be used as an equivalent to the industry component of VCAL.
