What do we do?

 

Box Hill Institute’s Centre for Hospitality and Tourism Studies has established itself as a excellent choice for training in hospitality, tourism and event management.

 
The Centre for Hospitality and Tourism Studies offers programs ranging from apprenticeships in cookery and bakery, to short courses in wine appreciation and food handling, to the Bachelor of Hospitality Management. Students in Years 10 - 12 can also take part in a number of school-based programs on offer through the Centre.

 

The Centre also offers tailored industry programs for employers seeking to ehance operational performance and retain good staff.

Our facilities

The Centre for Hospitality and Tourism Studies has a number of first-class training facilities which will ensure that your studies are delivered at a high level, enabling you to be ready to enter the workforce. In recent years, Centre students have worked at the Australian Grand Prix, AFL Grand Final and Melbourne Cup Racing Carnival.

 

Facilities include:

  • Box Hill Convention Centre
  • Training kitchens with complete individual workstations
  • Dedicated wine and liquor room with beer cellar system and practice bar
  • Demonstration theatre with chef’s demonstration bench and full audio-visual equipment
  • Hotel reception desk for role-plays
  • Bakers Delight Centre of Excellence — a training bakery with state-of-the-art equipment

 

International students, exchanges and training

The Centre for Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CHATS) has extended its reputation nationally and internationally, attracting more international students each year. International students study alongside local students and benefit from employment opportunities offered in all courses.

 

The Centre has a presence in Fiji, Samoa and Vanuatu, delivering various qualifications in hospitality and tourism for the Australian Pacific Technical College. You can be confident the training you receive is not only world’s best practice, but you will also have opportunities to study overseas.

 

Local hospitality management, tourism and event management students have opportunities to participate in short exchange programs with our Global Education Network partners in Canada at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, and in the US at Colorado Mountain College and ITE Singapore. Study tours have been conducted to Hong Kong/Macau and Singapore.
