Bioskills Specialist Centre
In August 2004, Box Hill Institute was designated the Specialist Centre for Biotechnology Training by the Victorian State Government, through the Department of Education and Training.
This Specialist Centre for Biotechnology Training is known as BioSkills and is located within the Centre for Biotechnology and Animal Sciences.
BioSkills Specialist Centre is principally responsible for the delivery of tailored commercial short courses and contracted services to the biotechnology industry. It is ensures that cutting edge information and technology are presented to industry in an endeavour to facilitate the development, growth and success of biotechnology in Victoria. It works closely with several industry associations in order to best understand and serve the biotechnology sector. It is a one-stop-shop for biotechnology companies and through consultation can identify skills needed to operate and progress their companies and then deliver the appropriate training to fill these gaps. BioSkills Specialist Centre can be a true partner of the biotechnology industry providing training that ensures workforce development and promotes a successful operational outcome.
Areas in which BioSkills routinely operates include:
- Bio-processing including aseptic techniques, fermentation and protein purification
- Real time PCR, DNA analysis and other laboratory-based biotechnology techniques
- Regulatory standards for the biomanufacturing sector
- Business and management skills for biotechnology commercialisation
