Areas of Responsibility

Some of Greg’s responsibilities include leading the Institute’s service provision to the Manufacturing and Building industries so that BHI is promoted as the preferred provider of training to these industry sectors in the Eastern region, developing relationships with the relevant Industry Skills Councils, and providing strategic direction for all courses servicing these industries.

 

Another major responsibility of Greg’s is coordinating and streamlining apprenticeship and traineeship delivery across the Institute, ensuring that the Institute meets the regulatory requirements of Skills Victoria and that Teaching Centres are aware of and comply with Institute, State and Commonwealth requirements for apprentices and trainees.

Greg has direct responsibility for three Teaching Centres:

  • Automotive, Transport & Engineering
  • Building & Furniture Studies
  • Electrical & Refrigeration Trades
Professional Background

After gaining his Certificate of Proficiency (Carpentry & Joinery), Greg worked as a stairbuilder, before becoming a manager in the company. After completing his Diploma of Technical Teaching he taught at various Technical Schools before joining Box Hill Institute as a teacher of apprentices. While teaching he completed his Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Frontline Management.

 

During his teaching career he was seconded to the National Building Industry Training Council as a consultant for the development of Standards for the Off-Site Training Package and was a member of the Melbourne Regional Group responsible for initiating World Skill Competitions, and was a national judge for the Detailed Joinery Competition.

 

While at Box Hill, Greg has been responsible for implementing various courses such as: Growth and Pathways (Building), Certificate of Occupational Studies (Building Construction), Set Design and Construction (Certificate of Theatre Technology). His progress at Box Hill has seen him become a Program Co-ordinator, then Centre Manager for Building and Furniture Studies before assuming his current role.
