| Career Advisor and Subject Teacher Seminar 2008 The Box Hill Institute Career Advisor and Subject Teacher Seminar was attended by approximately 75 delegates from around Victoria on May 23. Attendees received a multi-centre tour that included presentations throughout Elgar Campus. Sessions included a sensory tour of the Hospitality kitchen and wine room, a Performing Arts mini-concert, and presentations about Information and Communications Technology career trends, the Diploma of Applied Learning and careers in Biotechnology. Attendees were also treated to a three-course lunch at Fountains Restaurant where they experienced first-hand the students’ applied hospitality learning. Rosalie Staggard, Executive Manager Marketing and Customer Service, believes the Career Advisor & Subject Teacher Seminar is an important way to connect with the people who counsel the Institute’s potential students. “It’s about acknowledging the importance of the role career advisors and subject teachers play with young people. The issue for advisors has been finding out what is available to students and then assisting them to find a place that would suit them,” said Rosalie. “This was the first time we invited subject teachers, and that was to recognise the important role these teachers play in advising students in their career choices. It’s always a great opportunity to bring people into Box Hill Institute to see what our students do, and to see the breadth of our programs.” The response from the day’s attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with 93 per cent of post-attendance survey respondents indicating they have a better understanding of what Box Hill Institute has to offer and 98 per cent indicating they would recommend Box Hill Institute’s courses to their students. Further survey responses indicated that they overwhelmingly agreed the event was valuable and informative and there were no delegates who felt that the sessions did not meet their expectations. |
