“If I can show the right people the skills I’ve got, you never know.”
Diploma of Sport (Development) student Stephen Seymour was bowled over when he found out he’d received a scholarship from the Victorian Institute of Sport.
In May, the Box Hill Institute student was also inducted into the emerging squad with the senior state team for Cricket Victoria.
“I’m very excited. Everyone has been pretty happy for me,” he said.
The coveted scholarship entailed free access to all the facilities at the Lexus Centre which is Collingwood Football Club’s official training facility.
It also provides free doctor and physiology advice.
“I’m pretty proud and excited about it all,” Stephen said. “It’s a foot in the door as it provides good connections with Cricket Victoria.
“If I can show the right people the skills I’ve got, you never know.”
Stephen has loved sport for his whole life and has been playing cricket for 10 years.
“I’ve never had an interest in any other area,” he said.
He hoped to play state cricket one day and eventually work in the sports industry.
