“It makes me feel good to know that what I’m learning at Box Hill Institute, I’m implementing into my job.”
When Scott Tysoe first started his security systems apprenticeship at Box Hill Institute, he set himself the goal of winning Outstanding Student of the Year for at least one year.
He has achieved this goal by winning best First Year Apprentice in the 2007 Outstanding Student of the Year Awards.
“I put in a lot of hard work to achieve the best I could. I believe it’s important to set goals that are achievable, to set little goals to build up to big goals in the future,” he said.
Scott, 20, is now an apprentice at Grovic Security Services and is enjoying the many opportunities he has there to develop his knowledge of the trade.
“I was never really good at school and I never thought that I’d have an opportunity to make something of myself and pursue a career I enjoy,” he said.
“It makes me feel good to know that what I’m learning at Box Hill Institute, I’m implementing into my job.”
He encouraged more young people to consider the security industry as a career.
“In my industry there’s a shortage of people. About 80 per cent of the people in the security industry are 35 years and older then there’s a massive gap to kids my age,” he said.
