Box Hill Institute business and equine studies graduate Poppy Calhoun doesn’t horse around when it comes to finding employment.
The Advanced Diploma in Business (Marketing) student knew she had a job with Harness Racing Victoria before she’d even finished her course last year.
“I’m really enjoying it — it’s an area I’m interested in and passionate about. I work with such great people…they were willing to take me on and train me straight away,” she said.
Poppy said she might not have even got the job if it weren’t for the Institute.
“They gave me the education and skills development that I needed,” she said.
Poppy said the opportunity was a result of some work experience she completed with Harness Racing Victoria.
She now works as the racing information services coordinator with the organisation.
“My main role is to update the website, upload new race results and put the actual races online so people can watch them at home,” she said.
“I also communicate with the different racing clubs around Victoria to get their racing results and have to analyse the figures from each race.”
Poppy said business programs teacher Jan Burgess was a fantastic support during her course.
