Student Testimonial – Michelle Rossoukas

“The staff at Box Hill Institute are really good."

Like the well-known spider, representative on the Australian Women’s Handball team the Redbacks, Michelle Rossoukas has a pretty nasty bite, but only on the court.

The Box Hill Institute Certificate III in Fitness student has been playing handball for one year and is already set to represent Australia in the World Championships held in Russia later in 2005.

“There are 20 countries competing with us,” she said. “I’m more of a rookie … but the nerves haven’t kicked in yet.”

Michelle has represented both Brisbane and Melbourne in the National Netball League and played for the Queensland Firebirds for three years.

Travelling overseas for the world championships was proving to be a costly exercise for Michelle and her team-mates. “We don’t have enough sponsorship for the team so we have to self-fund our trip,” she said.

“I’m hoping to get some personal sponsorship … I need to raise enough money to get overseas to the championships,” she said.

Michelle said she enrolled at Box Hill Institute because fitness had been an interest her whole life. “This is what I love doing,” she said.

“The staff at Box Hill Institute are really good,” she said. “It’s been a pretty hard course … harder than year 12 — it’s surprising what you have to learn.”

Michelle said she hoped to complete Certificate IV in Fitness before becoming a personal trainer or gym instructor.
