“TAFE has been pretty good … the staff are really good, especially Creenagh Dalton and Catherine Sheahan.”
Box Hill Institute student and full-time AFL football player for Hawthorn Football Club, Luke Brennan always had his sights set on playing in a grand final.
The performing arts student’s wish came true on 15 September 2005 when he competed in the grand final segment of The Footy Show’s musical competition Screamers.
Drawing upon the musical skills he’d learnt at Box Hill Institute, Luke participated in the competition to try and win his football club a $350,000 apartment in Carlton and $20,000 from Wizard Home Loans.
“Screamers was all about finding out what footballers can do outside of the game,” Luke said.
The competition was open to all current AFL footballers with a talent in musical performance.
Luke said the Hawthorn Football Club encouraged him at the start of the year to enrol at Box Hill Institute to begin the Certificate III Music Performance (Jazz/Popular).
“TAFE has been pretty good … the staff are really good, especially Creenagh Dalton and Catherine Sheahan.”
Luke’s interest in music began at an early age. “My mum’s into music, so I got into it because of her,” he said.
“I’d like to pursue music as a career eventually and find out what else is out there.”
