"The inspiring and motivating teachers at Box Hill Institute were always helpful and knowledgeable."
Box Hill Institute graduate Diana Drijfhout’s latest achievement was a far cry from her humble beginnings as a hairdresser.
"When I left school … I tried to get an apprenticeship and kept getting knocked back," she said.
Now the owner of the Nefertiti’s Beauty Salon in Ringwood, Diana recently found herself a finalist in the 2005 Outstanding Student of the Year Awards – Vocational category.
"Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be nominated for this," the Certificate III in Hairdressing graduate said.
Nefertiti’s Beauty Salon was also the overall winner in the Maroondah Business Excellence Awards Program for 2000 and 2001.
Diana has been running the business for 17 years and now employs five staff members.
"When I first started my salon I worked alone," she said. "Now … Nefertiti’s is one of the most prominent beauty salons in Ringwood."
"Being able to grow my own business without any business background was a dream come true."
Diana said she succeeded with the support of her teachers, husband, parents and staff.
"The inspiring and motivating teachers at Box Hill Institute were always helpful and knowledgeable, making my course enjoyable and a pleasure to complete the training."
