"I will soon be fully qualified and am confident I can meet the existing required standards for the trade."
Security systems apprentice Andrew Carter believed Box Hill Institute was first class and second to none.
The Institute returned the compliment when Andrew was recently nominated in the 2005 Outstanding Student of the Year Awards – Apprentice category.
Andrew said when he began the Certificate III in Electrotechnology, Building Services, Security Systems he had little understanding of the industry.
"I will soon be fully qualified and am confident I can meet the existing required standards for the trade," he said.
Andrew believed those working in security systems industry needed to stay ahead of technology advancements.
"It’s easy to be left behind due to the industry’s broad nature … it covers computers, electronics, networks, fibre optics," Andrew said.
"With such a range of topics it makes it hard to stay up-to-date."
Andrew said his apprenticeship had been a real eye opener into the industry and its practices. "It has been enlightening," he said.
Andrew hoped to continue his studies after he graduated later this year.
"When I have successfully completed my apprenticeship, I would like to further my career by doing more courses to better my knowledge and understanding."
"I’m looking forward to great opportunities to advance and running my own company," he said.
