Student Testimonial – Stephen Frith

“I think the pre-apprenticeship course should be advertised more. You’d be amazed with how much it helped me.”

Take a bit of elbow grease, add a touch of determination, maturity and combine it with a pre-apprenticeship course and you have the perfect recipe for an award winning Electrical apprentice.

Box Hill Institute Systems Electrician student, Stephen Frith won the Second Year Apprentice category in the Box Hill Institute’s Outstanding Student of the Year Awards and avidly believes that if you put the work in good things will happen.

Stephen came to Box Hill Institute as a qualified locksmith with eight years experience. “It was getting to a point where I wasn’t happy and couldn’t further myself,” he said.

Ensuring the career change was a step forward, Stephen enrolled in a pre-apprenticeship course, which saw Stephen receive swift employment, which is a challenging hurdle for many mature-age students. “I actually had five employers ring me back after I applied for apprenticeships with them, which was quite unusual,” he said.

“I think the pre-apprenticeship course should be advertised more. You’d be amazed with how much it helped me.”

Stephen looks back upon his studies as not only a great learning experience but an enjoyable one also. “I’ve really had a good time at the Institute. I got along with all my teachers and peers like a house on fire,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s a mature age thing but its great to be able to chat to everyone and feel comfortable.

“I didn’t make a bad choice by going to Box Hill Institute...they truly produce.”
