Sandra McGuinness soon discovered working in Events Management is no straight line after she enrolled to complete an Advanced Diploma in Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management at Box Hill Institute.
However, it was the Outstanding Student of the Year finalist’s determination that saw her pull through and even went beyond the limits of many others in her field.
“Doing the Advanced Diploma in Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management course helped me identify the different areas which are necessary to run an events management business,” she said. “It’s made me aware of what I need to know.”
One of these important areas was in the rising need for security in events management. Sandra made the decision to actually gain a Security and Crowd Control Licence, which involved her completion of an intense training course.
“I learnt how to deal with people and secure an event safely,” she said. “It’s important to know how to deal with people because at the end of the day the event is your responsibility, so you must know how to manage them.”
Sandra explained that after completing a fashion course with Box Hill Institute and working in the industry for some time, she began to feel she could offer the industry a lot more through Events Management training for things like fashion shows and exhibitions.
