It’s a NEIS life if you can get it, and Lauren Dale is on her way to getting it all.
In June last year, Lauren completed the six-week NEIS (New Enterprise Incentive Scheme) program at Box Hill Institute and is now running her own public relations business called Spiral PR.
Lauren also completed the Certificate IV in Business (Management) as part of the program.
“Running my own business has been a dream of mine for a long time,” she said.
“The NEIS program allowed me to learn how to write my own business plan, set business and financial goals, and everything I needed to know to run a business.”
Lauren said she decided to start Spiral PR after working with various market research and public relations firms and freelancing as a promotional model.
“Many of the clients said they’d prefer to just deal with me rather than the companies I was working for,” she said.
“Thanks to NEIS I have the foundation and realisation that it takes to get you going. Running your own business gives you new reasons to get up in the morning.”
Lauren said she heard about the NEIS program through a friend.
“I went to the information session and learnt how it all worked, what the requirements and qualifications were and what financial support was provided,” she said.
Lauren said NEIS taught her how to run a business rather than work within one.
“We are all provided with mentors who end up becoming good friends. They’re really supportive. Our group bonded really well and we were able to set up a great network—I’m still in contact with my classmates,” she said.
