“I’ve committed myself to my training and enjoying myself while it’s happening,” he said.
Hayden McFarland may be feeling the heat, but he is definitely not leaving the kitchen, especially now he has been announced as a finalist in the 2004 Box Hill Institute Outstanding Student of the Year Awards.
The Hospitality graduate from Box Hill Institute was not only a finalist at the recent awards night, but was the Gold medal winner at last years Regional WorldSkills Competition in Cookery. He recently took part in the prestigious hospitality competition, Bocuse d’Or and has previously represented Box Hill Institute in the VicTAFE championship.
His achievement at the Outstanding Student of the Year Awards night still managed to surprise the experienced award-winner. “It’s an honour to be recognised,” Hayden said. “Especially as I believe myself to be passionate and hard-working in the work I do.”
The finalist attributes much of his success to the teaching staff in the Centre for Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CHATS) and his supportive parents, Sue and Bruce McFarland and girlfriend Leah.
Describing his career as very “hot”, Hayden believes that despite the pressure these awards nights and competitions present, he wouldn’t give it up for the world. “I’ve committed myself to my training and enjoying myself while it’s happening,” he said.
