“At the Information night and Open Day the staff were great...Box Hill Institute has a positive feeling about it.”
When Carol Wocker discovered she was nominated in the Outstanding Student of the Year Awards, she couldn’t have been happier.
In fact, the Children’s Services student was as happy as a child in a lolly shop. “It’s been so amazing and exciting,” she said. “I feel proud of what I have achieved.”
Carol is more than deserving of the nomination. A former student at Doveton High School, Carol left when she was only 15. It wasn’t until 20 years later that she realised the value in learning and decided to return to study.
Hoping to one day pursue a career in Children’s Services, Carol decided to look at enrolling in Box Hill Institute’s Diploma of Community Services.
“I contacted Box Hill Institute for information about my course, they were helpful and sent me all the information straight away,” she said.
“At the Information night and Open Day the staff were great,” she said. “Box Hill Institute has a positive feeling about it.”
Carol found returning to study a challenging time. “Discovering how to learn again has been a major challenge,” she said.
“I overcame my fears and put 100 per cent into each task that was set out in our class,” she said. “I listened and learned from the experience of the staff and students around me.
“It has been a wonderful feeling to think that I have come so far from where I started,” she said.
