“I’ve always been that way inclined and at the Institute I was given the opportunity to pursue what I liked.”
It has been nearly 20 years since Brett Hemphill studied at Box Hill Institute.
Today he is a true Institute success.
Owning and operating the online booking service NetBookings, the electronics and computer technology graduate said he and his wife decided to start a business in 1997.
“We found a partner who was also interested and work began on NetBookings,” he said.
“A friend of mine ran a scuba diving charter. He let us use his business as a guinea pig for an online booking system.
“To this day he still uses the original system and has around 90 per cent of all his business booked online.”
Brett said NetBookings was now the main online booking system for tourism on the Mornington Peninsula.
He said he owed his successful career to his days at the Institute.
“Box Hill Institute gave me good and relevant industry experience. I got along great with the teachers,” he said.
“The teachers have an ability to relate to young people. They were very passionate about the things we were learning and I was too.”
Brett said he first enrolled at the Institute when he was 17 because of his interests in electronics and computers.
“I’ve always been that way inclined and at the Institute I was given the opportunity to pursue what I liked,” he said.
“Box Hill Institute gave me a good foundation for starting my career in electronics and now information technology.”
