I realised upon my arrival I had found that land of my dreams...this was a land of many opportunities and choices.
Australia is the land of dreams for graduated Human Resources student Bernadette Clavin.
Being a finalist for the Outstanding Student of the Year Awards was one such “dream come true,” said Bernadette. “It’s beyond my greatest expectations.”
Irish born, Bernadette has spend most of the last decade travelling around Europe, eventually leading her to Australia. “I realised upon my arrival I had found that land of my dreams...this was a land of many opportunities and choices,” she said.
Bernadette took on one of these opportunities and decided to pursue a career in Human Resources. “I chose to undertake the Diploma of Business (Human Resource Practice) at Box Hill Institute,” she said.
Earlier this year Box Hill Institute hired Bernadette as an administrator for HR after a successful stint doing work experience for her course. It was a challenging learning curve for Bernadette.
“My friends and colleagues within the Human Resource Services Centre at Box Hill Institute have been a guide and a light,” she said.
“Their professionalism, awareness and ability to transfer their knowledge and expertise have provided me with an incredible opportunity to learn from their work practices.”
Fortunately this experience led Bernadette to her current position in HR with Boroondara City Council. “Human Resources is very competitive and fast paced,” she said. “It demands a lot of energy, dedication and time.”
