Student Testimonial – Ben Minichiello

“They have prepared me for higher positions in the workplace or for when I start my own business.”

Building apprentice Ben Minichiello spent two years trekking the globe before he realised his dream of becoming a builder.

The Certificate III in General Construction (Carpentry – Framework/ Formwork/ Finishing) student said the overseas adventure was his biggest achievement before becoming an apprentice.

“It provided me with an excellent foundation for when I came home and decided that this trade was without any doubt what I wanted to pursue,” he said.

Ben’s most recent success was becoming a finalist in the 2006 Outstanding Student of the Year – Apprentice Awards.

He said studying at the Institute had helped him achieve his dream of working in the competitive industry.

“They have prepared me for higher positions in the workplace or for when I start my own business,” he said.

“I strongly believe at this stage of my career, the practical experience, skills, knowledge and direction I gained from my teachers and mentors are invaluable.

“Throughout the last three years I have felt confident that I have had excellent training and exposure to the building industry.”

Ben said completing his apprenticeship with builder Paul Crittenden had shown him the importance of keeping up-to-date with industry changes.

“As our industry progresses and new technologies and developments arise, it is important to keep up with new products, methods and laws to maintain a professional standard,” he said.

Ben said he hoped to further his studies by completing a Diploma of Building to broaden his skills.

“I see these initial smaller projects as the first steps to one day running my own  business.”
