“My teacher Nadine Cresswell-Myatt really pushed me into submitting stories. She gave me a lot of confidence approaching editors and got me into freelancing.”
Box Hill Institute student, Anna Masters is fulfilling her writing ambitions as a roving reporter for the government-supported web site youthcentral.
The web site is a Victorian government initiative, which provides an online forum for young people to read about lifestyle choices, employment and issues relating to them.
The Diploma of Arts (Professional Writing and Editing) graduate said she enjoyed working for youthcentral because she was able to come up with her own ideas for stories.
“It’s a good job—if I didn’t have a writing job I’d be quite depressed. It’s what I love doing,” she said.
Since completing the diploma in 2003, Anna had been published in various publications such as young female magazines Lip and Frank, creative industry web site The Program, and is editor of Express Media’s e-newsletter.
“Box Hill Institute started me off,” Anna said.

Anna said she always wanted to write for a youth magazine.
"As a teenager I bought the typical teen magazines and dreamed of having my own one day,” she said. “It was an interest that just developed.”
