Student Testimonial – Adrienne Mears

"You complete such a variety of art subjects at Box Hill Institute; it’s easy to find a passion for something else you love."

Life experience is the key to fine art. At least that’s how it is for Box Hill Institute student Adrienne Mears who won last year's Media, Design and Arts Development Award in the Inaugural Mid-Year Painting Awards.

The Diploma of Visual Art has taken Adrienne four years so far and she hasn’t finished yet. “I’ve been studying on and off for all that time because I’ve been so busy,” she said.

After working as a Primary School teacher, travelling the world, meeting her husband and raising three children, Adrienne decided it was time to pursue her dreams and to indulge her passion for the Arts.

“I decided to do what I loved instead of just making money,” she said. “I love drawing so I started to look for suitable courses. Box Hill Institute was close to me so I started a Foundations course."

“I wanted to try a few other things so I ended up changing into the Diploma of Visual Arts. You complete such a variety of art subjects at Box Hill Institute; it’s easy to find a passion for something else you love.”

The Art course opened up a whole new world of art appreciation for Adrienne. “The theory helped expand my knowledge. I’m learning a lot. It’s helped me develop ideas and put them across in a visual form.”

Adrienne has plans to further her study and further her art exposure. "At the moment I'm hoping to open a Cafe and use it as a place to exhibit my own and other student's art," she said.

“I’m just happy to be putting my time and energy into my art right now.”
