What is VCAL? The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a hands-on option for Years 11 and 12 students. VCAL gives you practical work-related experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work. Like VCE, it is a recognised qualification. Students who choose to undertake a VCAL program are usually looking for pathways to further study at TAFE and/or employment, for example, apprenticeships. This level is an alternative to the Year 11 VCE Certificate. Senior level The skills focus at senior level is on: - knowledge and employability

This level is an alternative to the Year 12 VCE Certificate. What does this course involve?Strand 1 – Literacy and Numeracy Skills – These can be selected from VCE English and Maths, VCAL Numeracy and Literacy or from the Certificate of General Education. Strand 2 – Work Related Skills – In order to develop ‘employability skills’ you can choose from a structured work placement or part time work. You also study occupational health and safety, job seeking and interview techniques. Strand 3 – Personal Development Skills – You will participate in a community based project or structured activities that will help with your teamwork skills, self-confidence and other important life and work skills. Strand 4 – Industry Specific Skills – You choose from a range of vocational areas.
