Disability Liaison Service

The Disability Liaison Service assists students with a disability to participate in their studies at the Institute.It provides targeted support to students who have disabilities in one or more of the following areas:

  • learning
  • intellectual
  • psychological
  • physical
  • neurological
  • medical.

Students with a disability who require support or advice or wish to arrange a consultation can call (03) 9286 9891 or visit reception at the Nelson Campus offices of the Centre for Student Support Services (next to the cafeteria).

It is important that prospective or enrolled students with support needs contact the Disability Liaison Service as early as possible to allow arrangements to be made in good time.

To register with the Disability Liaison Service, evidence of disability is needed.

An individualised learning support plan can be negotiated for eligible students. The plan is developed and periodically reviewed to assist students to study and participate as effectively and as independently as possible.

The services included in a learning support plan vary according to the needs of each student and the requirements of their course. Examples of support are:

  • liaison with teachers
  • assistance with alternative formatting of class materials
  • modification to assessment tasks
  • arrangement of disabled parking and addressing physical access needs
  • arranagement of the use of special support software and technology
  • participation assistance in class
  • assistance outside of class
  • interpretation (Auslan)
  • use of a tutorial room.
