Kathryn sings her way to scholarship win
Cash-strapped student, Kathryn Draper will be able to beef up her repayments to her grandparents after winning the Vermont Lions Access and Equity Scholarship in June.
The $400 award, sponsored by the Vermont Lions, was provided to a financially struggling student wishing to undertake full-time study.
Kathryn, who was lent money to fulfil her dream of completing the Certificate IV in Music Performance course at Box Hill Institute, said she was grateful for the win.
“I’ve wanted to do this course since I was at high school. However, to pay for it I had to borrow money off my grandparents, so I’ll be using the money to help pay them back. It was really important to me to do this course as I want to improve as a performer and learn about my style as a singer as well as work with other musicians,” she said.
“I was really surprised when my teacher told me I had won as I’ve never won anything before. I’d like to thank the Vermont Lions for the sponsorship, without the support of groups of people like them study options for students would be that much more difficult."
