Box Hill Institute fashion graduate Kristy Barber’s new clothing label is set to be launched and made available to the public.

The Diploma of Textiles, Clothing and Footwear (Fashion Design) student will be officially releasing her unique clothing range Kuwaii after winning the LetsNetwork Student Designer competition.

Held by LetsShop.com, the event was part of the L’Oréal Paris Fashion Week 2007’s inaugural LetsNetwork competition and was open to budding designers across the country.

On 9 March, Kristy was announced the lucky winner and received a prize package worth $100,000 which included promotion, mentoring and assistance to launch her own clothing label, an Armani wardrobe and a selection of books from Penguin publishers.

Kristy said she was overwhelmed at winning the competition.

“I still feel pretty shocked. I haven’t redeemed some of my prizes yet because it’s all still so daunting,” she said.

Kristy said the competition had given her the motivation she needed to launch her label.

“Winning this means that I’ve got recognition behind me and a real foot in the door. I’m now working madly on designing my 2007 and 2008 spring/ summer collection,” she said.

“It’s really put me on the right path.”
